The Carmen Wire

Hi All,

This post is all about my Carmen Underwire!

If you want to know more about underwire styles & the wires I offer check out – Underwire Styles & Body Types

This is one of my new release wires (June 2017), and I think it’s going to become a fast favourite. This wire is similar to a regular day bra wire, like my Round wire, but it’s just a little wider and roomier! It also has a fairly vertical centre front, so it is great for people who need a little extra width in their wire, but need a narrow bridge! The name for this wire isn’t quite as meaningful as some of my other wires – I just got this wire in stock, and was on a walk with my mom, and she said- ‘how about ‘the Carmen Wire’?’ – huzzah- new wire name!

You can find the printable PDF wire  chart for this wire here: Carmen Wire Chart PDF

Buy this wire HERE, or get the Fitting Pack HERE

So here are the specs for this wire:

WIRE STYLE:

This wire has lots of the same features of a standard day-bra wire. It has good coverage and support under the arm, and is full coverage at the centre front (similar to the Round wire), but this wire is wider and roomier than my other day bra styles. It also maintains a fairly vertical centre front, perfect for keeping you cups close together!

BEST FIT FOR:

This wire is great for the average to wide oval body type. If you find that the standard Round or Orange wires are just a little too narrow for you and you want a little extra width without loosing the support and coverage at the bridge and underarm- this is perfect for you!

PATTERNS:

There are no patterns currently designed for this style of wire. However, it would be fairly easy to substitute this wire into your regular bra pattern with some minor alterations.

Since this wire is so new, I haven’t made any bras with it yet- but I can’t wait to get started with it!

Do you love the Carmen Wire?

I’d love to see what you make with it!!

The Carmen wire sounds like what I was always looking for (wide oval body type).
Does it go with your Black Beauty pattern? Or which pattern do you recommend for this body type?
Usually I have to take out 1″ of the lower cup height…

Hi Lea! The Black Beauty was designed for the Orange wire, but you could modify it to use a Carmen wire. I don’t know of any specific patterns that would be similar to reducing the bottom cup by 1″, that might be something that always requires a modification

Hi Erin, thanks for your fabulous and informative blog posts. The tutorials are very clear.
I’m thinking about trying your Carmen wires as I’m a bit wide set and can get along with regular round style wires, but find there is still a tiny gap between the bottom of the wire and the bottom of my root as I’m a bit flat there. I’m thinking these wider wires might help with that. I also need to overlap the wires at centre front or lower the bridge because I only have a 1/4” gap between the breasts, I’m assuming that these wires might have a bit less of a curve at the bottom than the regular round wires. I have yet to print out both charts and compare 😉
I was also wondering about the modifications you mentioned when using the Carmen wire with your gorgeous new Black Beauty bra. Is it just that the Carmen wires are a bit longer than the round wires?

Hi Dale, sorry for the delayed reply! Yes it sounds like the carmen would be a good match for you! They are longer than the Orange wires I use in the Black Beauty, and it would be best to modify the bridge to be a slightly different shape- I have a tutorial on here about modifying your pattern for a different style of wire 🙂
