This month I’ve fallen completely out of the bra-making world, so I had a wonderful couple of hours today catching up and searching through the blogosphere for all of the highlights of this month! This is what I found.
Firstly we had a pattern release this month from Orange Lingerie! She released her latest bra pattern: The Fenway bra, which looks like a super chic pattern!
She’s even had time to put out a tutorial on two ways to use lace with the Fenway, and I’m already seeing some beauties on Instagram!
Stevie wrote a wonderful post over on her blog Beebee’s Handmade Dress about the Anatomy of a Bra Kit which is an excellent guide to beginners who are trying to figure out all the bits and pieces of bra supplies!
Ying of Tailor Made Shoppe has had a super busy month putting together two fantastic pattern rescuers lists! First she came out with a list of 25 Soft Bra Patterns – which is awesome- but then completely outdid herself later in the month with her list of 50 Panty Patterns, which is just fantastic!
Hannah of Evie La Luve, has been back at her Youtube channel, this time with an excellent little Series on Basic Panty Construction .
And finally Sofia of Silver Lining Atelier put out a lovely inspirational tutorial on Embellishing your Handmade Bras with Ruffles
And now all the beauties that you sent in this month <3
Thank you so much for all these gorgeous submissions & all the amazing posts you’ve been making this month!
So, what do you have planned for May? I can’t wait to see 🙂
It’s late summer, and for me I feel like that’s a time of reflection. Somehow for me the ending of summer feels so much more like the end of the year than December. I think it’s because so much always changes in September- you go back for a new school year, you get ready to jump into a new project after a summer of taking it easy. It’s a time where I feel like I always reflect a little more, dream a little more, and somehow ready myself for the big push of fresh creativity that I always feel in September. Are you the same?
So with that thought, I wanted to talk about some ideas and changes that I want to make, starting with this week. I was thinking more and more about the round-up posts, and there are so many things I love about them- I LOVE seeing what you guys are making and your incredible creativity and skill, I love hearing from you in your emails and in your posts, and feeling like our community is close and always growing! But I also feel like there are a few holes- people who are maybe doing bra-making tutorials, or other cool things that I want to share too- you guys are such an awesome community! So I’m now going to do more updates and community sharing in the post- where I share a little bra news first, and then show off your makes 🙂
And the other wave of creativity and change that I’ve been mulling over since my last post is….. I’m going to take September and October off of the Bra-A-Week Challenge. Instead of just underwear I’m going to be focusing on outerwear! After my post last week, I got thinking more and more about my style, and where I’d like to be with it, and clearly you are all interested too, based on all the amazing comments and tips I got on the post, thanks guys!! I want to explore my style and a system that works for me, and get down the path to a me-made wardrobe that represents me as a person. I will be including some of my essential me-made undergarments as part of my posts, since underthings are really important to the overall look and feel of an outfit to me 🙂 I hope you’re all happy for a change of pace- and I’m looking forward to learning a little more about myself and my real style.
But alas- now onto the Intimate News!
There are some fun things happening in the intimates world this month!
There have been some fun pattern releases, including the expanded size range of the gorgeous Marlborough pattern from Orange Lingerie! (Now in 30-40 DDD/F – J) I can’t wait to see the resurgence of a million more marlboroughs!!
Another bra-maker, Madalynne has partnered up with one of the big four to bring you a SimplicityXMadalynne underwired bra pattern as well as a soft bra pattern with two different styles- super pretty!
In the world of bra-making and lovely tutorials you shouldn’t miss the great series that Sofia of Silver Lining Atelier has been putting together! She first did some great tutorials on Power Bars, and now she’s been covering Scallop Lace Panties! Amazeballs!
This is maybe a bit of a stretch for bra news- but I did submit on of my favourite bathing suits (Slice of Paradise) to the Social Sew over on Allie J’s blog! It’s this super cool thing where every month has a theme – this month is hot hot heat- and you submit your makes and link up your blog! As I say- it is very Social and very Sewing- and Allie is a total doll- so you should really check it out!
And if you’re a pinterest addict like I’ve already become, and you spend many of your free moments pinning lingerie, then you will probably get lost down the rabbit hole of Diana’s pinterest – a complete lingerie lovers dream <3
And Now on to all of your beautiful makes this month!
First we have this gorgeous set from Ashley of Craft Sanctuary!
Ashley made this bra using a pattern that she copied off a favourite RTW bra with a vertical seam. She has a sheer upper cup with this lovely lace detailing along the bottom of the cups- how gorgeous is that!!
She used Bliss wires and bra tulle for the sheer parts, and this beautiful stretch lace! And of course, some matching undies!!
Next we have three beautiful bras from the lovely Ilna!
Ilna had a month of trying new patterns!
She made this first bra using the Maya pattern and some pretty pink lace, an overall good shape but the upper cup was much too big.
Next is this silver crushed velvet longline, a pattern from Azalia, an end of winter project for South Africa! I’m totally feeling this crushed velvet – it’s making me dream of fall projects!

Lauren made this top using the Noelle pattern from Madalynne, and some polka dot swim fabric!
This top was a travelling top! And it was made on various friends sewing machines during Lauren’s travels around England this summer, but she had it finished in perfect time for her holiday in France! So cute!!
I think it would be fair to say that we have a new bra addict amongst us 🙂
Kat made this gorgeous bra using a gorgeous lace matched with this stunning floral stretch satin!
There are so many beautiful details in this bra I’m not sure where to begin!
The foam lower cup, the boned long-line band and she even made her own matching hook and eye!

I think I’ll still do my Round-Up posts so you guys can share all of your intimate makes! First we have this stunning longline from Réka of Red Heels!
This bra was the relief from Rékas short bra making hiatus, and what a lovely return! This gorgeous all-lace, longline bra with a horizontal seam! Stunning!
This bra has such a pretty and light quality! It almost looks like it could float off the hanger! Love it!!
Next we have a lovely set from Marian of Il Signo!
This is her Panther bra set and oh it’s gorgeous! She used a sheer fabric with panther print for the cups, toped with some lovely lace trimmings! I love how she used the sheer and lace and panels to make the matching panties, great style!
This is Kat’s first bra! WOW! she did an amazing job! A lovely three piece cup with seamed powerbar and top lace cup! Fantastic!
After this Kat said that she is becoming a bra making addict- and I’m so happy to help with that addiction 🙂
Next we have two beauties from Anemone of Sew Anemone!
Anemone made two bras using the Boylson pattern from Orange Lingerie, with some fitting tweaks and adjustments along the way!
After she found her perfect fit in plain ivory, she decided to indulge in some lace, this gold lace that she got from my shop :)- and WOW it is SO pretty! I love how it turned out- still simple and easy to wear, but oh so delicate and lovely!
First of all- Cat bra- OMG, I NEED this in my life- this bra is just the ultimate. So much inspiration right now- you already have me planning!
Ginny made this bra using this amazing cat print for the lower cup, and black bra tulle for the upper cup, with this lovely diagonal seam, partial band construction 🙂
The matching panties were made using the Budapest high-waisted panty pattern from our lovely first contributor Réka, with cat print front and sheer back. SO cute!
And to round the month out, Ginny made this gorgeous Sofie swimsuit! How stunning is this! With the gorgeous floral, and complimenting ‘linen look’ accents- wow!
Ginny makes all of these beauties for her very luck niece Emma, who says she feels like a movie star in this bathing suit! I can definitely see why- that is a suit worthy of the stars!
Well that was quite the beautiful line-up this month! You’re all so inspiring 🙂 🙂 You have me dreaming of lace and cats- so I guess nothing is new 🙂
Hope you’re all having a gorgeous summer weekend (or winter weekend for all my lovelies who live in the southern hemisphere)
Can you believe that June is already coming to an end? It seems like it just flew right by, and I’m loving it! I’m definitely a summer soul, so I’ve been out in the sunshine, loving life! I just can’t stay inside in the summer!
And you guys have make some beautiful bras & things this season! WOW! On we go!
First we have a beautiful white set from Raisa of Olympian Cotton!
Raisa made this bra using the Watson longline pattern from Cloth Habit. She used this dreamy white lace! So gorgeous!
She paired this with some lace panties to match, using a modified version of the Watson Bikini brief, so that she could have the beautiful scalloped lace edge on the leg 🙂
And a set this light and dreamy deserves a garter belt! She made this one using her own self-drafted pattern How pretty is this!
Next we have a lovely foam bra from Genevieve of Sew a Button on Your Underwear!
Genevieve is tickled pink by her new pink T-shirt bra, and I can see why! It’s a beauty! She made this using the Amanda pattern from PUG patterns.
Next we have a pretty bra from the lovely Samantha!
This is the first time that Samantha has made a partial-band bra and it turned out beautifully! I love the colours and that lovely lace that she used on the upper cup- and the pop of that bow! Love it!
Next we have some lovely submissions from Ilna!
Ilna made this lovely set using some mustard coloured fabric remenant that she got from a friend and paired it with some beautiful black lace. She used the Azalia pattern, and altered it to have a gothic arch, and butterfly lace- SO pretty!
She’s also been busy making some panties- these gorgeous burgundy lace panties using the Sew So Easy lace undies pattern, and the other pair using a modified MakeBra Hipsters pattern and some pretty ruffle elastic! Love!
Next we have a stunning bodysuit from the lovely Sofia of Silver Lining Atelier!
Sofia got to be a pattern tester for the new Cindy underwired bodysuit pattern from Ohhh lu lu! And what a beautiful body suit she made!
I adore these colours, and the contrast of the elastic, so pretty!
The fit for the body was spot-on, but she needed a little more room in the cups- very pretty design though, and wonderfully made!
Make sure to read all about this bodysuit over on Sofia’s blog!
Next we have some super fun makes from Ciara of Crabigail Adams!
Ciara was super busy this month! First she made this adorable Vintage Valentine’s bra and panty set! This reminds me so much of a vintage Valentine’s card! So sweet!
Next she made this Bluebird bra and panty set, where she modified the pattern for a gothic arch! Great detail! And I love the use of lace! I feel like I could look at your work forever and there’s always more to see!
And last but not least Ciara ended the month with this self-drafted bathing suit! Love it! It has a built in bra, and who doesn’t like the combo of stripes and fruit- so fresh, and it looks fantastic on!
And last but certainly not least we have these two beautiful from Ginny!
Ginny loves to make bras for her very luck niece Emma, and wow she must have a beautiful collection now! I absolutely love this pink lace diagonal seamed beauty!!
For this second bra she used the Shelly pattern from PUG patterns. I just love the colour, the lace and those adorable little rosettes! How sweet is this! I feel like you need to be on a picnic eating chocolate dipped strawberries when you’re wearing this! Love!!
And there it is! Your round-up for June! So many beautiful things to admire this month, as always, you guys are unendingly talented!
But now on to all of the beautiful things that you’ve made this month!!!
First SO many beautiful bras from the very talented Emma!
Next we have two beauties from Réka of Red Heels!
This is the White Lace Longline, self-drafted and tweaked to perfection! How stunning is this bra? A tulle and white lace beauty!
Before the white lace, Réka worked with some black lace earlier in the month to make this black beauty! This is another self-drafted lovely with a power bar as well- a great touch!
And to go with them she made this adorable pair of knickers with a heart cut-out! Super cute!
Which also reminds me that Réka put out a free high-waisted panty pattern this month!! Make sure to check ‘The Budapest’ pattern over on Réka’s blog!!!
Next we have two lovely sets from Ciara of Crabigail Adams!
Ciara made this first set, her ‘Purple Rain’ set as a tribute to the movie and the stage costumes that Prince wore in the film, great inspiration! She used a modified PUG Shelley pattern, duoplex & sheer cup lining!
Next she made a black and pink set, and this set is full of amazing techniques from the lace placement, to the seven buttonholes on the neckline edge of each bra cup to lace this gorgeous pink ribbon through! WOW!
Make sure to check out more about this set over on Ciara’s blog!
Next we have multiple lovelies from the lovely Amber!
I think it’s safe to say that Amber is the queen of amazing nursing bras now, after two months of multiple incredible makes! Including this number with some vertical seaming!
Amber also made this beautiful horizontal seam bra with lace detail- love that lace placement!
Along with lots of matching undies!
But also- SUPER COOL- She made a bra dress (a nursing bra dress no less!) to wear at her Grandmother’s 90th Birthday this June! AMAZING! I’m totally feeling this bra dress- I might have to make one myself! Very inspiring!
Genevieve set a goal to make a good fitting bra by the end of May, and on her fifth attempt she finally got it!
She used the Bravo Bella 2 pattern, and now that she has a great fit- the sky’s the limit!
She will be blogging about her adventures in bra making soon, but until then, you can still check out her other posts– I mean her blog acronym does stand for ‘Sew a Button on your Underwear’ !
Next I have a submission from my good friend France!
France has been sewing up a storm for all the great men in her life using the Wallbrook Boxer Briefs pattern from Green Style Creations. Great choice of prints too!
Can I say, fantastic pattern matching on these, you can hardly tell there are seams! And very nice of your son to model them too!
Next we have a pretty white bra from Marion of Ill Signo!
Marion made her ‘ Pjure’ bra using a self-drafted pattern, and some lovely white sparkle spandex!
She used vertical seaming, full-band construction and some lovely little details like this square gold sliders & rings and a pretty self-fabric bow for the front!
It just takes those cute little details to make this bra special! Gorgeous!
Next we have a few makes from new contributor Lily!
Lily made this bra using the Watson pattern from Cloth Habit, in a very lovely floral print! I’m still really feeling the florals for spring and summer this year!
And since a Watson bra on it’s own can get a little lonely, she made sure to keep it company with a pretty cami and high-waisted panty! Loving everything about this set!!
Lily told me that she’s more of a panties and camis kind of girl, but that I’ve inspired her to take the plunge into some bra-making, which is super touching, since it is my secret mission to spread the love of self-made lingerie to every woman I can 🙂 🙂
As a undies maker, Lily also did a gorgeous job on this pair of black lace undies this month! Perfect for bottoms month this May! Gorgeous!
Next we have some more unders inspiration from Amy of SEWSNBOWS!
Amy was on fire with her undie making this month! She used it as a chance to work on some elastic sewing technique that she saw from My Panty Elastic Sewing Post earlier this month.
Next we have two pretty bras from Samantha!
Samantha wanted two light bras to go under all her summer clothes, and she definitely did a great job!
This first bra is made using a light nude tricot, and pink ribbon strap and bow details <3
Samantha made this next bra using peach duoplex and a matching peach stretch lace, so pretty and so fresh for spring/summer! Love!
Next we have four bras from the lovely Holly of Intimate Underpinnings!
Holly is a custom bra-maker, soon to be based in Boston! And these are some of the beauties that she’s made for clients this month.
Starting with this beautiful ivory lace bra for a client who was looking for a little lift with some beautiful lace.
Next she made this gorgeous purple lace bra, which looks like it jumped right out of the window of a high-end bra boutique!
Then things turned a little sassier for another client with this satin animal print number! va va vooom!
And finally rounding it out with a fantastic red and black lace mastectomy bra!
What a wonderful month for you Holly! You go girl!
And last but not least we have some nice sets from Ingrid of IsaTe’s Designs!
These two sets are her ‘Tardis Sets’ which I believe is a reference to Dr. Who (please don’t kill me Dr. Who fans, one day I might watch the show, but for now Game of Thrones is just too much of a life priority)
This first set features a self drafted boyshort along with a self drafted bralette, for the height of comfort!
For the next set Ingrid went with some of her old standby’s using the Sarah longline pattern from Ohhh Lulu, and the Brief pattern from Cloth Habit.
You guys have definitely shown me up this month, wow! Not only the actual number of bras that were made but also the crazy skill, it’s truly inspiring!! 🙂 You’re the best bra community!
And now that we’re all feeling inspired by our awesomeness, we can think about all the lovely things that we’re going to make for June too! Any swimwear on your horizon like there is on mine??
As always, don’t forget to check out the Pinterest board, and pin all of your lovelies over there! And if you’re on Instagram and posting your lovely makes- don’t forget to add in #braaweek!! You can go here to grab a challenge button!
