Vintage Playsuit Sew-a-long: Post 1 Pattern and Fabrics

Hi All,

So if you didn’t know, I joined the Vintage Playsuit Sew-a-Long, which is a sew-a-long hosted in the month of June by Girl with the Star Spangled Heart. It’s a very open sew-a-long in a ‘chose your own adventure’ style, where everyone picks their own pattern and you share your sewing progress with the group through your blog and the flickr group.

As you may notice it’s nearing the end of June, and I have yet to post anything about a playsuit…  I’ve kind of let that slide quite a bit. I know I know, I’m sorry, I’m a horrible sew-a-long companion, but nevertheless I am here and I promise that I will finish this playsuit by the end of June!

I’m thinking that I’ll do this in a series of posts over the next couple of days. In this first post I’m going to show you the fabric and pattern I picked.

I’ve chosen this lovely pattern, I think it’s from the 40’s.

I want to do view A, the one on the right with the little bit of bare midriff 🙂

Naturally when I heard about the vintage playsuit sew-a-long I looked through my collection of vintage patterns and instantly fell in love with this one and had decided that I had to have it, when of course, I took out the pattern and realized it was only instructions.

So this is going to be a bit of a pattern drafting project as well, and I’m thinking that I’ll do my next post on the pattern drafting, another on making the muslin and any alterations that I have to do, and then a final post with my finished fabric. Which I have chosen to be this lovely cotton fabric:

I love this fabric, with the gold over the top and almost a grecian style motif! Maybe an unusual choice but I thought it would look pretty cool when it all came together!

So you can look forward to some playsuit posts coming up in the next few days and I’m excited to catch up with the group and see where everyone else is in their progress!

This is going to be fun!

Thanks! Hope you're having a great time in Sweden, and I'll be sure to wear the playsuit to work when you get back!
