Bra-A-Week: Week 9

Mar 15, 2015 | Swimwear Makes | 8 comments

Hi All!

This week is my first Sunday back in Ontario- and I have to say that it’s not nearly as bad as I thought it would be! Thankfully, has been very mild for me and I can smell spring in the air! Which is why I decided that something floral was needed for this week!

I used the same self-drafted pattern as I did for my ‘Canadian Winter Bralette’ from Week 3

I did make some modifications though- since I used a much thinner nylon spandex fabric, I used cut & sew foam to line the cups and give a little more coverage. The rest is just a simple layer of the spandex, which I might line in the future because it was a little flimsy. But wow this print! I’m in love!

I also added a style element by continuing the fold over elastic into a double strap.

It’s such an easy thing to do but I think it made it a little more fun and cute!

To continue with my theme of bright colours and fun I decided to use fuchsia powernet instead of black- just to keep the colour to a max and really make it pop!

It’s so nice to use the cut & sew foam in bras and bralettes because you can use fabrics like this and not worry about them being too flimsy to cover!

This was so quick to make up! I had it cut out and finished within 4 hours! And this is definitely one of the comfiest things to wear! I knew I needed another one with the amount that I wear my grey one!  I’m planning on wearing this as a crop top in the summer with some high waisted skirts too!

But now on to all of your lovely bra-makes!

—————————–
First we have this pretty pink bra from Sharon Butler of Tailorchick Production

Sharon made this bra looking out her window at the snow and wishing for warmer days!  She made it out of leftover supplies from past projects.

She also said that one of her favourite bra-making techniques is using clear elastic (Mobilon, plastic elastic) to stabilize a lacy neckline edge. I also love the strap extensions in the back! Beautiful bra Sharon!

Next we have another pretty pink bra from Rebecca, my co-worker/friend at Bra-maker’s Supply

Rebecca made this bra using the Classic Pin-Up Girls patterns. This is her second bra-make and she finally got the perfect fit!

Loving this bra,and the use of pink and white together! Great job Rebecca! 🙂

Next we have two cute Watson’s from a new Bra-A-Week-er Christa, from her blog Lake Knit

Christa made these two bras from the Watson pattern from Cloth Habit, after having some troubles with fitting her Classic bra pattern.

She got such a great fit that should couldn’t wait to make another and used an old long-sleeved shirt to make her second! How nice are these! Check out her post on her bra-making experiences over on her blog!

Next we have a super sexy ‘Ze-bra’ set from Diana of Diana Lingerie Design

Diana made this horizontal seamed, balconette bra set using stretch mesh in this amazing zebra print, with this purple detailing on the bridge- how cool! and calling it the ‘Ze-bra’, I bow down to your clever pun Diana- well done 😉 Check out her post on this amazing set on her blog!

Next we have a beautiful set from Karin of Mrs.Weaver’s Finest Unmentionables!

Karin made this long-line bra  using lace and this stunning blue silk. She lined her bra cups with cut & sew foam, covering the seams with this pretty ivory and pink lace trim. With the matching lace panties and silk and lace garter- oh la la!

This set reminds me of Cinderella (my favourite growing up!). And Karin is currently in Hamilton right now, taking bra-making classes (I’m so lucky to have her here with me!!) and she gave me a piece of this beautiful silk- I’m already dreaming of the things I’m going to make out of it 🙂 Thanks Karin 🙂

Don’t forget to check out her post about her bra!!

Next we have this very elegant black lace bra from  Jodi of Threads by Jodi

Jodi made this bra from a self-drafted 3 piece cup using cut & sew foam and black lace. Love the all-over lace!

She used the burrito method for the back band/front frame to enclose all the bottom seams. Very pretty!

Next we have a very creative bra from David

This is his ‘Erin’s Secret’ bra, with no underwires, and red lace on black tulle inspired by burlesque. He also added this red strap for more strappy detailing- channeling both vintage and modern elements in this piece. Very sexy!

David is a freelance lingerie designer, label: Bonnet Blue

Last but not least we have this super cute sleep set from Kerri of Lady K’s Wardrobe Unlocked!

Kerri made this ‘VW Sleep Set’ using a soft, single knit wickable fabric. This is a soft, comfortable set with the front closing Kerri style, with matching panties. She also made orange print leggings that she put up on her Facebook page. So cute!

Another week of absolutely stunning bras! So much inspiration- you guys are all so amazing! I feel like I got a little behind in California- and I still have to go back through Week 7 and update with more pictures!

This was me frantically working to finish the post at a Coffee Bean in San Francisco since my hotel didn’t have wifi- sorry for the delay dad!

As always- don’t forget to check out the Pinterest board, and the Flickr Group if you enjoy those platforms! To grab a challenge button and to send your bra for next week to bra.a.week@gmail.com!!

You can also check out Week 1, Week 2 , Week 3 , Week 4 , Week 5 , Week 6 , Week 7 and Week 8 of this challenge for more amazing bras! (wow that list is getting long!)

I don’t know about all of you, but I’m not sure if I’m ready for this challenge to end after week 11…. just a thought…

Happy Sunday!

Oh gosh, another week of awesomely beautiful bras! Love-love-love your floral fabric Erin!!! So many exquisite undies this week!

Life's been interfering with my sewing time the past couple weeks, but I hope to be back in the groove by next Saturday's deadline. Erin, I'd be tickled if you decided to carry on the Bra-A-Week indefinitely — so that's my thought on the topic :D.

Thank Ginny! I can't wait to see what you make- it is hard when life gets in the way, but I can't wait to see what you make coming up! And I'll definitely take your suggestion about the duration of Bra-A-Week, I might have been thinking something in that direction 😉

Erin, I hope you had a great trip! I love your bralette! The color is just so pretty and vibrant at the same time. Just lovely. Love the strap extensions on Sharon's bra (and the color), and please tell congratulations to Rebecca on getting her fit down! That's such an accomplishment. All such beautiful bras. I can't wait to start sewing this week! And I'm with Ginny… I'm all for a year of sewing bras! 🙂

As always, everyone's is beautiful. Same as with Ginny, other sewing interfered with bra-making, but a year of sewing bras might be nice, although maybe monthly and not weekly, otherwise I'll not be able to wear all of them! It is also good to see some new sewers joining and making very pretty bras.

Thanks Ilna! I don't know if I could ever have too many bras! But don't forget, you can also branch out to swimsuits, corsets, bodyshapers, and panties in this challenge too 😉
