Bra-A-Week: Week 12

Apr 5, 2015 | Swimwear Makes | 16 comments

Hi All!

For Week 12 I’m definitely channeling spring!

And since I was home for the Easter weekend I thought I would borrow my sister to be my bikini model this week, with our new dog Gibby!

How beautiful does she look in this new bikini top!! and even cuter with a dog on her arm!

I was inspired by spring flowers, florals and upcoming summer! I just needed something fresh after such a long winter!

It was actually a pretty simple top to make! I used MT style foam cups that I got from Bra-maker’s Supply, and I covered them with swim fabric in this beautiful turquoise shade! (I just covered them using a simple dart and finished the edges with self-binding).

Then it was flower time! A helpful trick to cutting flower shapes out of swimwear is to iron some freezer paper onto it first. Then you can trace your flower shapes onto the paper and cut it out while its still stiff and easy to cut- then simply peel the paper off!

Gather them in the middle with a couple little beads then glue them onto your cups! LOVE IT!!

And if you have a couple left over they make a very pretty complimentary hair clip!

I did this bikini with a simple halter string! perfect for tanning! And I just happen to have a matching little sarong to go with it! (now I just need to make the bottoms!)

So many pictures make a puppy tired!

I’m so excited about this one! Give it a couple weeks and I’ll be living on the beach!!

Now on to your lovely submissions!
———————–

First we have a pretty bralette from a new contributor Sofia of Silver Lining Atelier!

Sofia made this beautiful self-drafted satin bralette. She made this with a 2-piece cup using low-stretch satin and lace.

She used fold over elastic for all of the elastics in the bra and a metal closure on the back. She also lined the lower cup piece with cotton jersey for a little extra support. Very pretty! Don’t forget to check out Sofia’s post on her blog!!

Wow, that bikini top is adorable! It reminds me of those decorated swimming caps women wore in the 60s.

Erin, so many beautiful contributions this week! I love your bikini top. It definitely looks like it would be SO much work, but using glue is brilliant! It's utterly charming. Sofia's bra is lovely too. And her dress form. Gorgeous. (I know that's not the focus, but… <3), I love Monika's Go-Green bra too. Really lovely. Diana's is stunning. Just amazing! As is David's. Wow. Some people really make works of art! And we all need our basics, so I love Rebecca's and Amy's too!

I'm so glad you liked my bralette, and my dress form! It's not a professional dress form, but my mum gave it to me as a birthday present and it's great for displaying garments. I named it Greta for no particular reason, the name just came to me xD
I love your bra as well: nice fabric and great work! 😉

Your bikini is amazing, Erin! So cute, and perfect for spring. I'm sure that attaching all these flowers was a pretty hard work, but it had a beautiful reward. Your sister must be so happy! 🙂
Also, I'm quite impressed by the other submissions. Monika's green bra is lovely! Diana's bralette and David's bra are really luxurious pieces! Michelle's bra looks quite professional, and I love the flower embroidery! Also the sets by Rebecca and Amy have such a simple beauty!

I'm so glad I joined this challenge, and I'm really looking forward for next week submissions 🙂
