Bra-A-Week: Week 15

Apr 26, 2015 | Swimwear Makes | 17 comments

Hi All!!
This week I broke the rules of my challenge and I made my weekly project for someone else. But what’s a girl to do when her mom has a hot tub party coming up?

Make her a cute suit with anchors of course! And naturally all photos must include my beautiful little assistant- who after his spring cut is almost unrecognizable – who knew there was such a skinny little pup under all that fur?

After taking a good browse through my Swimwear board on Pinterest, we decided that some cross-tummy ruching, narrow princess side panels, and a tied v-neckline all needed to be in the works! So I designed this suit for mom: which I call the ‘Super-Ruched Princess Suit”

I absolutely love the princess side panels! I designed them so that they continue the whole way up the suit acting as a front strap, power bar and princess panel all in one elongating line! And I used a solid navy for that part- just to be extra flattering!

I love how all the ruching in the front makes it look like a storm of anchors flying in every direction!

And naturally I drafted a cut & sew foam underwired bra to hide inside this lovely top with the little tie! So cute & flattering!

And instead of it coming up to a halter (which is so uncomfortable on the back of the neck) I have the straps crossing in the back, to maintain that nice angle in the front.

I’m so happy with this suit! And mom is pretty thrilled too 🙂

I’m also thrilled with all the amazing things that you’ve been making this week!

————————————
First we have some beauties from Sofia of Silver Lining Atelier!

Sofia has been taking a lingerie class and has come up with so many beautiful bras including this one which is a reverse engineered bra from one of her favourite H&M bras. Love the colour combo!

This is another lovely and delicate bra that she made! Definitely go and check out her post on her course and all her bras- she’s making some fantastic bras!

——————————
Next we have some panties from Christie!

Christie has been all about panties this week! and I really love this panty & tank top set! So cute!! I love the contrasting fold over elastic- it really adds a wonderful touch!

Christie said she’s been obsessed with fold over elastic lately – and I can definitely understand that obsession because it’s one we share! Long live fold over elastic!!

——————————-
Next we have two Linda’s from an Emily- of Dressing the Role!

Emily used the Linda partial band bra pattern from Bra-Maker’s Supply for both of these bras attempting to get her ultimate fitting pattern. Loving the lace placement on these! Very nice for fitting bras!

This brown one is her second fitting bra- which is SO close to a perfect fit! I know you’ll get it perfect!! Don’t forget to check out Emily’s post over on her blog about her fitting experiences and bra-making tidbits!

Next we have a super fun swim top from Ali of Sewing with Purpose and Repurpose

Ali made this swim top from the Watson Bra & Bikini pattern from Cloth Habit. A self-confessed addict (she has made 8 for herself and 3 for a friend!) she’s now branching into foam linings for the cups and soon the bottoms to go with it! Very lovely! Don’t forget to check out Ali’s post on her Watson’s over on her blog!

Next we have a stunning corset from Karin of Mrs Weaver’s Finest !

This is Karin’s ‘Edelweiss’ corset! Made using the full bust view of the Freedom corset pattern, and her first in a series of corsets! So exciting- and va-va-voom, talk about a silhouette!

Karin made this corset using a very pretty white with green flower drapery fabric, and contrasting ribbon over the seams- very nice touch, it really accentuates all the seaming and the nip at the waist! Don’t forget to check out Karin’s post on her beautiful corset!

———————————–
Next we have a very pretty set from Kerri of Lady K’s Wardrobe Unlocked!

Kerri made this set using the Kerri Sports Bra pattern for the supportive bra top, lined with sheer cup lining for extra support. She also made cute little matching panties and jacket to go over for an extra dainty look. Such a delicate look and it’s made for a 46/48 G/H- showing you don’t have to compromise style for size!! Lovely!

Last but not least we have this simply elegant bra from David of Bonnet Blue

This week David made this simple black plunge t-shirt bra. He made it using foam cups and black elastics, and with a special touch of gold hook and eye for the back fastening- simple elegance!

Erin, this is a beautiful swimsuit you made for your mom (lucky girl!). It is so beautifully made and looks stunning – the assistant is super cute too. I still need to get that fold over elastic sorted out, it looks so cute in the tank top and panties. Kerri's set is very beautiful too. Karin, that corset is looking good…
