Saturday Life [05.07.15] : Seeing my Studio & My New Tables!

Hi All,

Since I’m going to be having so many new things happening in my life I thought that it would be good to start a new blog series to keep you updated- so here is the start of Saturday Life 🙂

For this Saturday life I have some really exciting updates!!

I got to see the inside of my shop!! This past Thursday I met with my landlord and he let me into my future studio 🙂

Now unfortunately they are running behind on the construction of the space, and I didn’t get the keys this July 1st, and I will have to delay my grand opening until later this summer. But I did get the chance to see the inside of the shop- and I am already in love 🙂

(the front windows are still boarded up while it’s under construction)

It is a long and narrow 10 foot wide X 80 foot long shop! It used to be an old carriage-way through all the shopfronts of downtown Belleville! You can just feel the history being in there, with the exposed brick walls, and my favourite part- the vintage circus posters from the 1930’s that are still up high on the walls! This is for the Cole Bros. Circus that came to Belleville on a Thursday in June many years ago!

I know it’s not in it’s final state right now- but it is so nice to walk in and just imagine the space as my own, and picture what it will be like when I move all my things in and make it my own studio… wow.

I look up at the shop front, imagining when the boards will be down and it will be bright windows with my ‘The Emerald Studio’ sign out front, welcoming people in 🙂

Mom and I have been pinning to our ‘Dream Shoppe’ board on Pinterest like crazy over the past few days, dreaming of all the amazing things for my Studio!! And I’ve been looking at ideas for my launch party! 🙂

One of those important shop items are my teaching tables, for people to set up their machines and sew! I wanted them to be nice and sturdy tables that wouldn’t bounce under the power of a sewing machine, and big enough to give lots of room for my students!

So of course I’m having my dad make them for me 🙂 Thanks dad!! 🙂

Here is one of my beautiful tables, built and ready for edging, sanding and painting! They are 6 feet long, by 35″ wide! And dad’s making me two of them! Perfect for a class of up to 8! 🙂

And with a fresh coat of Varathane! I love the wood grain on top 🙂

It’s so exciting seeing all this coming together! Thinking of all the little things and making them happen. I’ve never felt so run off my feet- or overwhelmed- but I’ve also never felt so proud of myself, or excited for the future. So much to come on this journey!
How has your week been?

You are a very brave and talented person and I am very happy for you!

Be thankful you've got such a supportive family, and as I am in the UK I will most likely only see your shop via the Web, so I look forward to your future posts!

If those tables are anything to go by, this shop will be a dream to learn in.

    Exciting!!!

I LOVE the new space!!! And my favorite part is the circus posters. Adds a bit of vintage flare that is right up your alley, and who doesn't love a bit of history on the walls. Plus that exposed brick makes me drool. And who knew your dad was so skilled at woodworking!? Without a doubt, your family is an unbelievably creative and talented bunch. Anyways I can't wait to see what you do with the space, and it looks like you have some amazing diggs to work with!
