This post is going to be all about the different styles or shapes of underwires- before I jump in I want to let you in on some exciting updates… I just launched two new underwire styles in my Etsy shop! more about them in this post- so let’s jump right in!!
Also- if you haven’t already read last weeks post on Fitting Underwire, it has some great information before you start into this post!
So first off- what do I mean when I say different ‘Styles’ of underwires?
Different styles of underwires are all the different shapes of underwires. They can be tall and narrow, short and shallow, high on the sides, high at the front, all different!
I’m starting off this month with a good overview of underwires and how to find your size- Let’s jump right in!
To start off- let’s talk a little bit about underwires and why we use them.
Underwires are designed to help distribute the weight of your breast into the band of your bra, giving you more support and lift. They also help to give more shaping to your breasts and keep them out of your armpits.
A properly fitted underwire should help with support, lift, and shaping – but it should not pinch, poke, dig in or generally be uncomfortable.
Another week of May just sailing past. This time I took as many photos as last week- not too bad lol! It’s always amazing to me how much things change in May- the month always starts out cold, in sweaters and jackets and jeans- then by three weeks in you can sunbath in your bikini some days. Maybe that’s just how sporadic the weather is here in Southern Ontario, but I’m completely soaking up all this warm weather! There’s nothing better than knowing that you have all of summer ahead of you 🙂
So to start off this week I wore one of my favourite pretty bras- my Lily of the Valley – I have to say that I don’t often wear the garter belt that I made to go with this set (since I don’t usually wear stockings) but I do wear the matching panties all the time. It’s one of the only white bra and panty sets that I’ve really fallen in love with, usually white isn’t my favourite, but I think the lace and the cut out details really make this shine!
Next I wore another favourite- and I would say that this is my all-time favourite- My Black Beauty bra! I also did an Exposing the Unders on this bra for my Sunday post. I’ve used this base pattern for quite a few of my other favourite bras, including the foam sets I made the week before, and my chartreuse & black set.
Next I wore a clothing make! It was the perfect day because it was so sunny and warm, so nice and breezy! I really love this dress, I made it at the end of the summer last year and got as much wear out of it as I could before the weather got too cold, but I’m really looking forward to having it in my wardrobe this summer! It’s the Tank Dress from Sew Caroline, and I made it with this printed rayon, so it’s so super soft and flowy and I added a little placket detail in the front, just to give it that something extra when you’re up closer 🙂
And last but not least for this week of wears- My Snow White bra. Another classic of mine. This bra deserves a wear every once in a while. I usually wear it on a special day or when I want something that makes me feel really held in. A longline just isn’t practical and comfortable for my everyday- but definitely so for a special day 🙂
And there we have it! Another week of May passing by- and I have to say- maybe it’s the warm weather, or just more time passing, but I’m definitely getting more and more energized and getting so many projects moving and of course my brain is buzzing with a million ideas and things that I want to do! It’s going to be a big summer of projects for me!
Do you have any summer projects that you’re looking forward to?
Also I used to do some posts on my blog called ‘Saturday Life’ where I took pictures through my week of what I was doing and posted life updates. I don’t know if I would do posts exactly like that again but would you be interested in content like that again? Just something I’ve been rolling around in my mind.
As always, I love hearing from you 🙂
This month I’ve fallen completely out of the bra-making world, so I had a wonderful couple of hours today catching up and searching through the blogosphere for all of the highlights of this month! This is what I found.
Firstly we had a pattern release this month from Orange Lingerie! She released her latest bra pattern: The Fenway bra, which looks like a super chic pattern!
She’s even had time to put out a tutorial on two ways to use lace with the Fenway, and I’m already seeing some beauties on Instagram!
Stevie wrote a wonderful post over on her blog Beebee’s Handmade Dress about the Anatomy of a Bra Kit which is an excellent guide to beginners who are trying to figure out all the bits and pieces of bra supplies!
Ying of Tailor Made Shoppe has had a super busy month putting together two fantastic pattern rescuers lists! First she came out with a list of 25 Soft Bra Patterns – which is awesome- but then completely outdid herself later in the month with her list of 50 Panty Patterns, which is just fantastic!
Hannah of Evie La Luve, has been back at her Youtube channel, this time with an excellent little Series on Basic Panty Construction .
And finally Sofia of Silver Lining Atelier put out a lovely inspirational tutorial on Embellishing your Handmade Bras with Ruffles
And now all the beauties that you sent in this month <3
Thank you so much for all these gorgeous submissions & all the amazing posts you’ve been making this month!
So, what do you have planned for May? I can’t wait to see 🙂
This Sunday I have an exposing the unders on one of my favourite bras- Dreaming in Silk. This is one that has seen lot of wear since I made it just over a year ago. There’s something about it that is so perfectly me- it’s a relaxed fit, it’s has nice lines and is soft but not too girly? I don’t know, I just love it, and I wear it all the time. So I thought it was the perfect choice to deconstruct for you today!
— Very quick PSA first —
