Quick little tutorial today, all about using your favourite 6″ stretch laces for your Madalynne X Simplicity 8229 bra. Although this could really apply to any bra where the lace that you’ve fallen in love with is just a bit too narrow for your pattern!
This was inspired by the 8229 because it recommends 8″ wide lace, which is not the most common lace to find out there. I really wanted to use this 6.75″ lace that I have, and it turned out that in my size that was perfectly fine- but then I wondered why you needed such a wide lace- and I found the culprit! It’s the outer cup piece- the biggest size is about 8″ long. So I thought about ways that I could make it work- and it was really too easy!
For this pattern you can go as narrow as a 6″ wide lace before you have to also patch the frame on the biggest size, but that’s not too bad since I feel that 6″-7″ lace is the easiest to find!
I’ve done this tutorial with the largest size (42DD) available in this pattern, but as I say this tutorial could apply to almost any lace lingerie project where you fall a little short on the lace.
Here we go:
So you’ve cut your bra pattern out, and you go to cut your outer cup piece out of lace …
And this happens..
Never fear! Just follow these simple steps:
Then you can pin it to your lining and go about sewing the bra up like you normally would!
I know that this is probably one of the most simple tutorials I’ve ever done- and after I did it, it seemed pretty obvious. But I feel like this is one of those things that you just don’t think about and holds you back- like “nope, can’t make that pattern, the lace isn’t wide enough”. But 100% honest, this would only add about 5-10 minutes to your construction, and it looks completely flawless all finished.
Is this something that you already do in your bra making?
Or was your mind a little blown like mine was by such a simple thing?
Also since your mind is on bra making and Madalynne…. I do have some kits still available for the 8229 & ViewA of the bralette pattern 8228!
As always, I love to hear what you’re thinking & making!!
