Hi All,
Today I wanted to tell you about something really exciting!! I’m having classes at my studio!!
I now have my class list up and my calendar all set for January – April!
I’m teaching beginner to advanced level classes in bra-making, swimwear and corsetry!
And they are all going to be hosted at my studio, The Emerald Studio!! at 213A Front St. Belleville, Ontario, Canada!
I’m so excited to be starting my classes in the new year!! I can’t wait to meet some of you lovelies, and share so much of my bra-making knowledge!
And if you’re still deliberating on exactly what you want for Christmas, you could always ask for a gift card towards a class or a custom bra! 🙂 There is no better gift 🙂
To book a class, or purchase a gift card you can simply:
stop in at the studio
call the studio at 1 (613) 929-3399 (from tues-sat 12-5 EST)
or you can send me an email at erin@theemeraldstudio.ca !!
YAY!! I can’t wait for the new year to come and classes to start! It will be back to school for me this January! How about you?
xo

That's so exciting Erin! And I have to say I am super envious of everyone who gets to come and learn from you – lucky things! I'm looking forward to the new year too – heaps of exciting things to come for me too – but first I need to get through those last bits of Christmas sewing; and my sewing machine is being an uncooperative beast and refusing to sew my sister's present… :'(
Thanks Maddy, I wish you could come to my classes too! I can't wait to hear everything that you have coming up for the new year! Good luck with your sisters present! xo
Hi, just found your blog for the first time. I really love your blog. You are an awesome writer. I have been wanting to make my own bras for years now and I am finally going to be able to start soon, but I was wondering do I need to have a coverstitch machine to make good quality bras? Is it possible for me to just use my sewing machine to start? I just bought a serger in January of 2015 thinking that that was the machine that I would need to use for bras and lingerie. Boy was I disappointed when I found out how wrong I was! Please let me know what you think.
Hi Layyah! And welcome to my blog! 🙂
I'm so happy that you're taking up bra-making! bra sewing is the best sewing! As for machines, I make everything on my sewing machine (a bernina 830 from the 1970's) and I use my regular 4-thread serger for the side seams of panties and swimwear. I don't use a coverstitch machine at all, I don't even own one. All you really need is a sewing machine (although it is much nicer to use the serger for the seams on swimwear and panties!). If you have both a sewing machine and serger then in my opinion you are set! And you can make any of the things that I've made on my blog 🙂 I can't wait for you to get into bra sewing!! YAY
Thanks for the reply! I really needed to hear that from someone who knows what they are talking about and is not looking to make big bucks of of me. Thankfully I do have a sewing machine and a serger. Do you have any recommendations for where I should get materials and supplies? I am going to make my own pattern from one of the bras that I own, but it is hard to know what kind of material I should get or where I should get it from.
Well I do sell supplies in my etsy shop (it's called The Emerald Studio, and you can find it by clicking on the 'E' in my pink buttons on the side bar). I sell a few different fabrics right now (I'll be expanding the store sometime in the new year) But I would base it off of the fabric that was used in the bra you're cloning. Try to get fabric that is the same weight, and most importantly a fabric that has the same amount of stretch. If it's a stretchy fabric- find a fabric with a similar stretch, if it's rigid, make sure your fabric is rigid. I sell kits for bras and findings kits with elastics in my shop, because I find it's too much to remember all the elastics, channel, sliders&rings and everything else that you need, so I would say that, especially for a beginner, a kit is better so you don't forget any little pieces – there's nothing worse than going to make a bra and realizing you're missing the one piece you need! I hope that helped!
Congratulations, Erin! Wish I were closer and I could come in person 🙁
Thanks Allie! I wish you were closer too! I'll just have to come out with online classes 😉
