And a very Happy Halloween to everyone! I hope you all had fun last night, whether you celebrate Halloween or not!
This week is going the be a different week for the Bra-A-Week Challenge. We’re in a transition between a month of beautiful corsets back to beautiful bras, and with Halloween and everything else going on in people’s lives, I think everyone needed a bit of a break this week- but I hope to see more beautiful submissions for next week! 🙂
This week we can focus on a fun collaboration project I did with Mrs.Weaver last week when I was in Calgary!
I made a bralette for Mrs.Weaver! Now you might remember way back to Week 3 of this challenge when I made myself a Winter Bralette, well I can tell you that it has hardly left my body since, and is in need of replacement.
But I was talking to Karin over the past two weeks, and she was lamenting about the lack of bralettes in her size range, and how she would like a nice soft bralette for lounging around the house, and being comfortable. And I thought it would be the perfect time to test out my old drafting techniques for bralettes and see how well they do on the larger cup sizes! And we were both pretty smitten with the result!
This is a vertical seamed bralette with a longline band, just like my bralette from before, only a little bit shorter band that can be used with a 3X3 hook&eye in the back. You might remember that my bralette was a pull-over style, but that wouldn’t work for Karin with her full bust and tiny rib cage!
We used this gorgeous soft plaid flannel, with black fold over elastic and black powernet for the back band- the ultimate in soft comfort!
I’m so excited about this and the future for the Emerald Bralette pattern! Braletts can work on larger bust sizes! And who doesn’t want a comfy bralette!
I think it’s similar for everyone, after Halloween all the waistbands need to get a little looser and comfier as we gear up for Christmas pies and rich winter desserts! And I think this one will definitely do the job for Karin!! Now I want one!!
What do you think about bralettes? Are they for you? Do you already make them and love them? Do you have a hard time finding a pattern that fits you well?
Let me know!
And that is it for the Bra-A-Week Challenge this week! I’d love to start a big discussion about Bralettes down in the comments if you’d like to share your thoughts 🙂
I can’t wait for all your submissions next week!
I have had the most incredible week, so full of exciting and amazing things! The first thing I want to talk about is the beautiful calendar above!! This is an amazing calendar, from Mrs.Weaver’s Finest Unmentionables, is full of real and beautiful women, in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Society! Amazing! And I’m so excited to announce that it will soon be available in the Emerald Studio Etsy Store! Make sure you head over to Karin’s blog to read all about the amazing process of making this calendar 🙂
Now back to my week!
It started out pretty amazing with a class on drag make-up- for those days when your regular foundation-mascara routine is just not enough 🙂
Then in the evening the beautiful Mrs.Weaver and I put on our corsets and headed to another evening of Burlesque, but that evening we got to show off our wears 🙂
Then it was off the next morning for a very special meeting and future collaboration! What could make a regular corset even more amazing and exciting?
Adding armour to the mix of course! We met with a very talented armourer and talked about all the exciting possibilities mixing corsetry with armour! I am so excited to see the future of this collaboration!!
Then we had a relaxing mid week- talking all things bras and bra draft- never too far from tea & chocolate.
This was also a great opportunity to make up a beautiful lacy mastectomy bra for our upcoming expos! 🙂 Mastectomy bras should really only come in beautiful options 🙂
And so many women agreed with our idea of beautiful mastectomy wear at Bra-Day in Calgary, an evening of all things breast cancer and reconstruction. What a great evening!
And now we are off to even more events to show our beautiful wears 🙂 We will be at the Calgary Body Soul & Spirit Expo all weekend!! So if you’re in the area feel free to stop in for a chat!
It has really been the fullest and most phenomenal week! I can’t wait for all the amazing things this week to come! 🙂 If you are on Instagram you can always check out mine and mrs.weaver’s happening by following us @theemeraldstudio & @mrsweaversfinest and with our #emeraldweaverproject!
Hope you’re all having a fantastic week 🙂 Let me know all about it in the comments!
Wow this has been quite a week! Really an overwhelming week, and it went by so fast! I started my week, just getting home from camping in Pennsylvania and now I’ve ended it in Calgary! What a ride!
After getting home from camping, of course I couldn’t just stay put, I had to head to the city to meet up with two good bra friends 🙂
It was a day full of fabric, and chatting over drinks on a patio in the sun 🙂 With some super talented bra-makers:
Julia of Ellesmere lingerie– a new indie lingerie designer!
Holly of Intimate Underpinnings– a custom bra-maker from Portland!
Love you girls! 🙂
Then the middle part of my week consisted of some turkey eating & visiting with family for our Canadian Thanksgiving, but mostly a panicked flurry of corset sewing and prep for my big trip!!
And before I knew it I was in the airport waiting to board my flight! Watch out Calgary- because Emerald Erin is coming to town!!
And of course the raison d’être in Calgary is of course the most fabulous….
Karin of Mrs.Weaver’s Finest!!
the most amazing hostess & friend a girl could ask for! -this was my morning view, sipping my tea 🙂
I’ve hardly been in Calgary for 48 hours and we’ve already been hard at work! (I love my job!) Sharing bra theory, corset makes, inspiration, plans for the future!
Karin has so much amazing happening in her life & business right now- such an inspiration! And I’m so happy to be a part of it all!! And you will all be part of it too!!
And of course there isn’t a better way to kick off our visit than a burlesque show from the Calgary International Burlesque Festival last night!! all I can say is WOW!! there are no words for how much I enjoyed this show! just amazing!!
And we get to go again tonight for the Saturday Night Cabaret!! And with a booth to show off our custom corsets! So if you would like to come out and see us- we’ll be there!! 🙂

Let me know if you’re going to be at any of these events!! I can’t wait to meet you!! 🙂
I’ve been having one of those busy weeks. Not like my past weeks where I’ve had one big thing to accomplish- like preparing my presentation for Pitch this Place, or moving all of my belongings out of my Hamilton apartment and down 5 flights of stairs *sweats thinking about it*. I’ve been having one of those weeks where you have a million little tasks to accomplish. A million e-mails and phone calls, lots of little posts, and lots of computer time.
New Social Media!
So one of the first things I did this week is tackle my social media. I know that I’m a young person, and I should know all about social media- and I do to some extent- but I’m not a big social media user. So I tackled that this week and opened an Instagram and a Facebook Page!
So far I’min love with Instagram- it’s just so pleasing to the eyeballs- I’m @theemeraldstudio !
You can go there to see pictures from my life including my garden, my puppy and sewing projects I’m working on. It’s been strangely addicting-it’s like a photo journal of your life 🙂
My Facebook Page hasn’t received quite as much attention, that will be on my goals list for next week! But I do have a cover photo designed by my sis! YAY
For all these lovely social media outlets I decided it was time that I had a better way to share them on the old blog- so I put these up in my sidebar:
I know they look simple, but for a blog illiterate person like me it took all day to figure out the best way to do this. If anyone is also baffled and would like these buttons for sharing- check out this post– this is how I did it, and it saved my life! And they have so many gorgeous coloured buttons for free! 🙂
Elsewhere on the blogging-sphere
Some exciting things are happening for my good friend Mrs. Weaver in Calgary! She is soon to be opening her new Mrs. Weaver’s Finest Unmentionables Parlour!
Here is an *exclusive sneak peak!!* of her new location!!It’s really shaping up beautifully- I mean that antique Butterick Pattern cabinet *swoon*
She also had a very close call with Master Chef Canada– with her amazing black ant cheesecake *drools uncontrollably*
In other news, I did a guest post over on the Sewcialists Blog!
It’s all about my love and tips for Cut&Sew Foam and Fold Over Elastics! You can check that out here
And last but not least- it’s my sister’s birthday today!
So I made this little number for her! I’ll be doing a blog post about this tomorrow 🙂
Wow this week has been busy! But I’m loving every minute of it 🙂
How has your week been?
