Saturday Life [05.09.15]: Family, Etsy, Exciting News & This Fall for the Bra-A-Week Challenge!

Hi All!

This week has been CRAZY!! and I have SO much to tell you all! I have: 1. that exciting news I mentioned a while back!, 2. Updates from the Etsy shop, 3. What’s coming up this fall for the Bra-A-Week Challenge and 4. Some family fun πŸ™‚

First I’m going to start off with my exciting news!

I have been given the most amazing opportunity to travel to Connecticut to teach private bra-making classes! YAY! I’m heading out early next week and I’ll be gone for the week! I’m teaching a lovely lady that I know who is looking into designing a RTW collection, and needs some assistance on designing the patterns, figuring out fabrics, and understanding all the fundamental elements of bra-draft & design that will help make her bras exactly what she wants!

What this means on the blog is: for the next two Bra-A-Week Challenges, I’ll share with you two of the tester bras that I’ve made for the private lessons that show more about the impacts of direction of stretch, the amount of stretch and the impacts of different design elements! (YAY for bra theory!)

I will also be leaving my Etsy store in the very capable hands of my mom πŸ™‚ although I will always be available for questions!

I can not wait for next Saturday Life – (when I’ll still be in Connecticut) and to share my week! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

And that brings me to The Emerald Studio Etsy Shop!

Wow it’s been absolutely incredible!- if you didn’t know from my previous post, I launched my bra kits this week! And you have been loving them! I am so excited that I’m finally open and getting to share all my favourite bra making supplies with you! And this is only the start!!

This is my shipping department, beside my elastic department! lol

And here is a ready-to-go bra kit with small sized findings! I like to keep them all nice and tidy so they don’t get wrinkled on their journey through the post!

I have been absolutely loving running the Etsy shop so far! and I can’t wait to bring out more products! If there is anything that you know that you LOVE for bra-making and you think I’m missing, please let me know- I would love to grow this business with all of you in mind πŸ™‚

Also a little bit of extra business stuff- I just got my “The Emerald Studio” Sign art digitized and put on my business cards!! I’m obsessed with them! YAY

You might be seeing more of this branding coming up!

Now the next order of business is the Bra-A-Week Challenge!

I can’t believe the summer is over! and my break from the Bra-A-Week Challenge. (Again many many thanks to this lovely lady!!)
I have to say that I’ve really missed hosting over the summer, and that unless I force myself, by hosting- I won’t actually make a bra every week, let alone once a month- it’s just been so crazy this summer that it keeps slipping down the priority list!
But no more!! I will make a bra every week again!! And the first two will be about bra theory!
But I was also thinking of doing something interesting this fall- and having Corset October! I’ve been really wanting to dive further into corset making lately and I feel like fall is the perfect time! (not to mention I’ve been completely swooning over all the corset patterns from Scarlett!)
So I will be making a corset every week in October *sweats nervously*. And I’m not alone! I heard that the amazing Karin of Mrs. Weaver’s Finest will be joining the corset party – and possibly Maddy and Sofia?? πŸ™‚
So if you are into Corset October- let me know! Also- how is everyone feeling after the summer? What are your bra-making goals for this fall coming up? Any new ideas or projects? πŸ™‚
And finally after this long post I’ll leave you with my little bit of family time for the week-
My dad’s side of the family is visiting from California, so we’ve been doing a little bit of:

Lovely Β wine tasting in Prince Edward County πŸ™‚

Some strolling around the vineyards πŸ™‚

Some family feasting at my grandparents house πŸ™‚

And last but certainly not least, a few hands of bid euchre that went late into the night πŸ™‚ my favourite!

So that was my week! I hope you’ve all had a lovely week- please tell me about it in the comments πŸ™‚

until tomorrow for the Bra-A-Week Challenge!

Sunday Life [30.08.15]: Product Photography, Fabric Shopping & a Day of Rest

Sunday Life [30.08.15]: Product Photography, Fabric Shopping & a Day of Rest

Hi All,
Here is a late look over my week πŸ™‚ I’ve had a bit of a weird week. Some ups, some downs, and overall I have to say that I’ve had a bit of a tired week. You know those weeks where you feel like you’re getting behind on everything- and all the things that you’re working on are slower than molasses? That was my week.

So instead of waking up full of energy yesterday, ready to write my Saturday Life- it was one of those mornings where everything was going wrong, and I had bit of a melt-down… And decided that the rest of my day would be much better spent snuggling with my puppy and being away from my computer.

So now that the weekend is almost over, I feel like I’m in a better mood to be reflecting on my week and sharing the best bits with all of you lovelies!

The first part of my week was spent working on product photography- something I never knew could be quite so tricky- and something that has been much harder to do with bra-kits than swimwear kits. Who knew that adding a piece of black or white powernet to the frame would completely throw off the white balance and colour? who knew? *sobs*

And here that behind the scenes ‘magic behind the photos’ you will see on Etsy soon! (I should have a couple kits up tonight, but I’ll be doing a post on them tomorrow!)

None of this would be possible without this little helper-puppy who insists that my lap is the best place to sit while I set up the kits for pics.

Another little teaser about some kits- these ones won’t be coming out for a couple more weeks- but I’ve been sourcing some lovely laces for you all πŸ™‚ And my dad made me these amazing wooden cards for me to put the lace on – thanks dad!! They are so tempting!

In other news, I managed to get myself to the big city this week for some Queen st. fabric shopping with a friend. I can never say no to floor-to-ceiling fabric!

So of course I couldn’t walk away without something beautiful- which was this amazing gold silk brocade for an upcoming corset this fall! (My friend picked out this navy&turquoise for herself!)

Anyone joining me for Corset October this fall in the Bra-A-Week Challenge?

Speaking of the Bra-A-Week Challenge- I’ll be taking it over again! Alas it is the end of the summer and my wonderful summer host – Michelle – has passed the torch back to me- and I am again the host of the Bra-A-Week Challenge. So you will be seeing those Sunday posts up again starting next Sunday!

For this Sunday make sure that you check out the Bra-A-Week Challenge over on her blog!

Otherwise this week I’ve been enjoying:

The #sewphotohop over on Instagram, this was my Day 29 photo for ‘eye level’ – not super sewing-themed but I love it πŸ™‚

The fresh corn on the cob that is finally in season! nomnomnomnomnomnomnom

And pinterest- I’ve been obsessed with these Ziegfeld Follies Girls – and all these gorgeous boudoir style shots from the 1920’s *swoon* I’ve been in a pinning frenzy over them on my Boudoir Board.

And that’s been my week. Have you ever had weeks where you want to just roll over and go back to bed- where nothing seems to be going very well? I hope I got it all out of my system! This week is busy!
Hope you’ve all had a lovely week

Saturday Life [22.08.15]: Supply Shopping, Cottaging & Business Building!

Saturday Life [22.08.15]: Supply Shopping, Cottaging & Business Building!

Hi All!

And another Saturday rolls around too soon! Wow the time is really flying!

This week has been really busy – I’ve actually been away for four days! Cottaging then shopping! And the rest of the week has been busy working on business, storage issues, and Etsy prep!

It was quite a blissful start to my week to spend the full day outside at my friend’s cottage, in the sun, drinking Corona’s with lime πŸ™‚ Wearing the bikini I made my sister (it’s funny you always want what isn’t yours!)

It was amazing weather and a day full of sun with my friend Claire πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing the beer!

What you can’t see in the photo is the insane sunburn I ended up with the next day- πŸ˜› I guess I got my vitamin D in for the whole summer!

After that blissful get-a-way it was right back to work with some days picking up supplies in Toronto in Hamilton. Which meant endless aisles of fabric- aaaahhhh shopping bliss! So many stops!

Besides cottaging and shopping my week was full of business prep, business planning and other meetings.

Brain-storming sessions on my bed with my good friend who is planning an amazing photo-shoot!

I also found out about an AMAZING online design tool at a workshop this week:

I am so excited to start playing around with that and making some beautiful blog graphic design updates!

It’s also been a fun week on Instagram with the #sewphotohop happening the August! This was my photo for ‘Tiny vs. Big’ lol

I also have a SUPER exciting thing coming up that I’ll tell you next week πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

And last but not least I am SO HAPPY with how my Etsy shop is coming along! There have been a couple small delays with the bra kits but I’m hoping to have them, along with underwires and sliders and rings out this week πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So look out for that!!

What an awesome week πŸ™‚ Hope your week has been just as wonderful!

Saturday Life [08.08.15]: Organizing, Old Friends & Beer with Dad

Saturday Life [08.08.15]: Organizing, Old Friends & Beer with Dad

Hi All,

Saturday rolls around once again- wow that week was gone in the blink of an eye- was your week over quickly too?

I’ve had a pretty busy week- organizing, out in the summer air and hanging out with dad! I’m also putting the final touches to my Etsy shop, waiting for the last couple details to come together- and it will be up and running in the next couple days! With the bonus of an early release of my bra kits along with the swimwear kits!! I’m so excited!!

So other than running around getting everything together for my shop- I was a very busy bee this week. Part of my week I spent sorting and organizing through everything- with all my supplies coming in my house filling up with piles in every corner and I needed to stop and put it all together!

One of the best organizing jobs was going through all this vintage lace from my grandmother. There was some gorgeous little finds in there!

And I had my sleepy little helper with me, who was happy to keep any fabric I set on the floor warm for me- how thoughtful.

Sorting through all the vintage things I had a chance to go through my 1911 copies of ‘The Young Ladies Journal” – which are all gems! It also got me thinking about my sign design for my studio!! I’ve found a local sign-maker who is crazy talented and also loves the idea of a 1910 vintage-sewing machine type font! So I’ll make sure to update you on the design of my shop sign too! πŸ™‚

My dose of outdoor summer fun for this week was hanging out with one of my best friends Jenn πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ She moved out to B.C. last year and I haven’t seen her in SO LONG- it was a blissful day <3 <3

We went to these waterfalls up where my grandparents used to have a cottage when I was growing up- It’s so much fun to walk through them, play in them and sit under the falls while the water rushes over you!

Naturally I slipped and cut open my finger (thankfully as we were leaving) And Jenn had the best first aid kit- consisting of tissues and electrical tape. Always in good hands πŸ˜›

But I quickly consoled myself with donuts- these aren’t just any donuts though, these are Dooher’s Donuts – arguably the best donuts in the whole world, and I may or may not have eaten 1/2 of all of these..

My other outing this week was a supply run to Toronto with my dad πŸ™‚ Lots of little things for setting up the business, some stops for dad- and best of all a good dinner with some beers πŸ™‚ This time we tried something new and went to Cravins Caribbean Grill. I had a jerk chicken roti- and OH MY was it good! And some excellent Jamaican beer to go with it of course!

The other cool part of my week has been the #sewphotohop on Instagram hosted by @houseofpinheiroΒ I am LOVING it!! and meeting so many fellow sewists πŸ™‚ And so many gorgeous pictures with great themes! So make sure you check that out and join in if you aren’t already! And if you are participating- make sure to leave your instagram info in the comments so I can follow you!!

Otherwise my week was full of lots of little things, meetings, Skype calls with long-distance friends, workouts and lots of snuggles with mom and the puppy. And it’s left me happy tired πŸ™‚ I think Gibby represents my feelings best in this photo:

So that was my week! I’ll make sure to let everyone know as soon as I get my Etsy shop fully finished and open for business!

How was your week?

Are you doing lots of fun summer things?

Are you participating in #sewphotohop?

Happy Sewing!
