It was pretty simple to make- I made the top based on my self-drafted bralette pattern, and then added some fringe to the neckline! All you have to do is cut the swimwear fabric, since you don’t have to worry about it fraying, and then baste it to your neckline before you finish with binding!
This was definitely a project with binding- the only swim elastic in this suit is around the bottom band of the bikini top and in the halter strap!
Fringe love!! What I love about the fringe is the nice dip that it goes in following the neckline curve! and it’s so easy because it’s just a rectangle of fabric you slice into strips!
I didn’t put any foam in this top- it’s just a layer of swimwear and a layer of lining- so it’s a soft bra, but I like the shape that this seaming gives. I based it off of the seams in my bralette pattern. And it was so quick to do- I just serged all the seams then topstitched with a zig-zag stitch.
I also did some detailing with a charm on the side- I added it with this strapping element- which I’m not overly thrilled with, since it gapes a little – I might end up making another pair of bottoms, or fixing these so they don’t gape as much. not sure yet, we’ll see
Aren’t these little rings so cute?! I got them in Toronto when I went shopping with Karin!
Overall I’m pretty excited about this new suit! and it’s almost beach weather!! I will definitely be rocking this on the beach soon!

Lovely entries again.
The corset of Karin is stunning and realy like Monika's bikini's.
Your bikini is so nice, all the little details, luv it.
Thanks Diana! ๐ ๐
That's a wonderful fringe bikini, Erin! The charms are a cute detail, and the strapping element in the bottoms is an interesting design idea, really original! I hope you'll fix that little gap!
The submissions this week are also great. I love the "retro" feel of Monika's bikinis and, as always, my jaw dropped when I saw Karin's corset. How can it be so perfect?!
I may come back to the challenge next week, but my sewing machine is broken *cries inconsolably*, so we'll see… In the meantime, I enjoy watching everyone's creativity! ๐
Thanks Sofia! I'm loving this suit! I'm so sorry to hear about your sewing machine! I treat mine like it's my baby and I cry when it's broken too!
Lovely submissions this week. I'm feeling somewhat like you, Erin, in that you're inspiring me to start thinking about swimwear. Great post!
Michelle
